Gaining Confidence

Doing it Scared

Insecurity is often seen as something to “fix” or “overcome”—as if one day you’ll wake up completely confident and never doubt yourself again. But in reality, confidence isn’t the absence of insecurity—it’s learning to live, grow, and take action despite insecurity.
Rather than trying to eliminate self-doubt, this chapter is about understanding where your insecurities come from, accepting them without judgment, and moving forward anyway.

1️. Why Do We Feel Insecure? The Psychology Behind Self-Doubt

🔹 Our Brain is Wired for Comparison – Humans evolved to live in groups, where social standing meant survival. Today, that instinct manifests as constant comparison—measuring ourselves against others in looks, success, intelligence, or relationships.
🔹 Past Experiences Shape Our Self-Perception – If you’ve ever been criticized, rejected, or made to feel "not enough," those experiences can shape your inner dialogue. Even if your circumstances change, your brain holds onto old narratives.
🔹 Perfectionism & Unrealistic Standards – Many people believe they need to be flawless to feel worthy. If you think, "I'll feel secure when I look better, achieve more, or gain approval," you're caught in a cycle where confidence is always conditional.
🔹 Fear of Rejection & Failure – At its core, insecurity often comes from a fear of being unlovable or not belonging. We avoid risks because we believe failure will “prove” we’re not good enough.

💡 Key insight: Insecurity isn’t a sign that something is wrong with you—it’s a normal human emotion. The problem isn’t feeling insecure, it’s what we do when we feel it.

2️. The Truth About Confidence: It’s Not What You Think

Most people believe confidence is something you achieve first—that once you "fix" your insecurities, you'll suddenly feel capable and fearless. But confidence is actually the result of action, not the prerequisite for it.

💬 You don’t wait to feel confident before taking action—you take action, and confidence follows.

Think about it:
✔ No one feels fully prepared before they start something new.
✔ No one feels completely fearless before stepping out of their comfort zone.
✔ No one becomes confident overnight—they gain confidence by proving to themselves, over time, that they can handle things.

💡 Key shift: Instead of waiting for insecurity to disappear, practice acting despite it. That’s where true growth happens.

3️. How to Accept Your Insecurities Without Letting Them Control You

✅ Recognize That Insecurity is Just a Feeling—Not a Fact
✅ Separate Yourself from the Stories You Tell Yourself
✅ Stop Trying to “Earn” Worthiness
✅ Actively Do Things That Challenge Your Insecurities
✅Allow Yourself to Be a Work in Progress
